Behold—The Ovens Natural Park! This special place is home to Nova Scotia’s first gold rush that happened in the caves dug deep inside these seaside cliffs.
The Sea Cave Trail takes you on an amazing cliff trail featuring a tour of the “ovens” aka the sea caves.
It is work the risk, I assure you.
Down we went into the caves…
And I mean really down…
Here’s a video from inside of Cannon Cave:
The view from inside Cannon Cave.
I couldn’t get over how beautiful the colours and the layers of the rock were.
I am thankful that my partner was so patient with me that day, because I stopped to take quite a few photos, quite often…
It was just so beautiful, I couldn’t help it. I wanted to try and capture as much of it as I could.
After finishing the trail, we passed by what appeared to be some of the original tools used back in 1861. Pretty cool.
Next, we checked out Cunard’s Beach. “All the stone on this beach is heavy in metamorphic slate containing thin seams of quartz.” Cool!
Cunard’s Beach itself was quite beautiful.
I liked these old lobster traps filled with rocks on the beach.
Next time we will try to find some quartz on the beach (after visiting the Sea Cave Trail of course).
Screw Peggy’s Cove, I want to take my family HERE when they (finally) come visit!!
This is great as I now know what not to miss next time I’m in Nova Scotia! Thanks!
